Antagonist Initial Ideals- Hand Drawings

Antagonist Costume Ideas
To begin with, we need a costume which makes our antagonist frightening and terrifying; which would make the audience fear the person, even when they leave the cinema. Me and my group came up with a number of costumes to give ourselves a clearer idea on how we want our antagonist to be portrayed like to the audience. Doing this task in the research and planning stage gave us more ideas for the plot of the movie, the back story of the antagonists and the different events that are going to be captured in the trailer.
Gas mask antagonist
Our first idea is of a man in a gas mask holding a razor sharp axe in one hand. We generated this idea when looking at previous research tasks , which this drawing I drew was inspired by the movie posters 'The Crazies' and 'My Bloody Valentine'. From previous research, the audience find it more scary having a human behind the massacres which are present in horrors. This is why we like the idea of using a real person but hiding their identity to an create enigma for the audience on who and why they are doing this. This would therefore make the audience watch the film. The big oversized coat also hides the identity as it doesn't show the body shape of the villian also meaning hiding the gender of this person. The axe and the mask  follow conventions of  a horror/thriller film because it indicates  that there will be murders and blood spill which are done by unknown suspect. The type of location we would expect to see this particular antagonist would be an abandoned building because the gas mask would make the audience feel as though the type of events would be to do with a murderer that lost someone or lost their own life in this home due to a tragic event, for example a gas explosion. However this costume can work in all location from woods to abandoned buildings.
This is one of our favourite costume ideas due to it being simplistic and very effective. However, duirng the developing stages we may alter it to compliment other alterations and elements of the trailer. An alteration may be due to one of our other ideas, which is having more than one antagonist, creating a family of antagonists. However this idea may be used as the leader of them because it is haunting and it would stand out as the dominant antagonists due to the costumes but also the body build of the character (which is why the interviewing actors is vital).

Creepy crawler antagonist
The type of character this next costume presents is some kind of unrealistic creature that would see in a nightmare as a child. However due to the antgonist being human it makes them automatically horrifying as people aren't seen like this usually. This already gives us ideas for the type of plot that would be suitable for this type of antagonist. For example, the antagonist haunting children within families, ' the night crawler'. However, it may be harder to do than the first one because it would involve adding special effects when editing as well as finding someone that would be able to play the role well.
To create this costume we would buy a morph suit and cut the eyes out ourselves g. We would also sew a mouth in creating a stitch like smile, which makes the antgaonist furthermore frightening as they are smiling while they will be killing people- unnerving!
, Then to create the dark eyes we could use makeup to fill them in making the antagonist seem as though they only black holes for eyes. The suit would be black so it would look like a shadow when being filmed under dark low key lighting creating a supernatural effect.

The Clown antagonist
The next antagonist costume idea is of a murderous clown,  Clowns are one of the most common phobias which the majority of the nation face. This would therefore scare a wider audience. This idea was inspired by the movie 'It', which uses a clown for the antagonist, to intice children and then kill them- maybe this is where the phobias began!
The clown costume conforms to the stereotypical horror movie antagonist. due to the use of the props used , knife and havng such an everyday person. The essence of a clown is to be fun and jolly, which makes the antogonsist horrifying as he is actually the complete opposite, a murderous blood thirsty clown. The balloon symbolises that the character is out to get young children as this would attract them. The use of the knife follows the conventions of a horror as this would be the iconic murder weapon of the film and trailer.

The colours of the clowns body suit would be black and white, because black connotes darkness and evil but the white connotes to innocence and purity, which could symbolise good versus evil in the trailer and film. Throughout the film and trailer, the white within the costume would get dirtier and more bloody, emphasises the amount of blood which ahs been spilt which would build up suspense who has he killed and who is next.

Little Girl antagonist
This next costume conforms to the usual stereotypical horror movie antagonist used in such films as 'Sinister' and 'The Ring'. The use of a young girl for the antagonist may create confusion as a child isn't usually seen as haunting in real life. This therefore makes  their character traits  unexpected and creepy when they are used in such a way. Having used cuts and brusises up her legs could suggest she has been running away from something which would make you feel sympathetic for her; however this could be a way of inticing people.
The colours of the clothing she is wearing would be pale pink and white as they connote innocence and vulnerability, She will be vulnerable because something is possessing her to act unnervingly making the audience feel terror whenever she is on the screen. The teddy bear that she is carrying would be the iconic symbol for the child's presense, which make the audience fear her whenever you see the item. An example of this could be that the protagonist of our film finds the toy bear and creates an enigma for the character within the film; whereas the audience would be screaming at the screen saying she's coming!
To make her look more like she is meant to be in a horror movie, we decided her dress would be ripped in random places and she would have blood on her hands, this would show the bad side of her character to make it more obvious to the audience that she wont be a very innocent character.

Psychopath/zombie Antagonist

Our final idea was thought up if we wanted to go into doing more of a thriller movie based around zombies or psychopaths.
This antagonist would be presented as something that has no guilty conscious which means no sympathy from the audience as they have no relation to the type of character he is. I call the antagonist a 'he' because this would conform to the stereotypes of a villain as they are known as strong and manipulative in horror movies which is also the stereotypes of men. If using a zombie for our trailer, it would intorduce our film into a much broader audience, especially due to the increasing popularity of zombie fans, thanks to the amazing living dead franchise 'The Walking Dead'. If we do this antoginst we would have to do a lot of make up suc as scars and cuts on their body, by using zombie skin putty and other resources.
The colours we would make this costume will be dark but will still have the texture of skin to make it seem more like an unrealistic character. This is one of the reasons why this is our least favourite idea out of the five antagonist costume idea, we prefer to make it more realistic to the audience because then we can use mundane realism and create many enigmas on who could be causing the murders and/events.
